Although this unusual-looking barred spiral galaxy has no visible bulge, the green spot indicates a dense concentration of stars at its center. The thin red lines are the galaxyΓÇÖs bar; the yellow and green areas are disks of stars. The lack of bright patches in the galaxyΓÇÖs disk indicates the absence of stellar nurseries. Galaxies like NGC 4762, unlike the Milky Way where many stars are forming, are believed to be far along in their lives.
